Quilt Preparation

TOP

  1. Carefully press the quilt top, seams should lay flat.
  2. Clip all loose threads especially the dark ones.
  3. Pieced outside borders and bias edges should be stay-stitched 1/4 inch around the quilt to prevent stretching.
  4. Be sure that seams at the edge are secure.

BACKING

  1. Backing fabric whether pieced or whole cloth must be a minimum of 4-6 inches larger on all sides than your quilt top.
  2. Flannel backing fabrics should be pre-washed twice to avoid shrinkage.
  3. If backing fabric is seamed remove selvage edges and sew with a ½ inch seam allowance, press seams open.
  4. Press and square the backing fabric.

Bed sheets are NOT recommended for backing fabric.
