Quilt Preparation
TOP
- Carefully press the quilt
top, seams should lay flat.
- Clip all loose threads
especially the dark ones.
- Pieced outside borders
and bias edges should be stay-stitched 1/4 inch around the quilt to prevent
stretching.
- Be sure that seams at the
edge are secure.
BACKING
- Backing fabric whether
pieced or whole cloth must be a minimum of 4-6 inches larger on all sides than
your quilt top.
- Flannel backing fabrics
should be pre-washed twice to avoid shrinkage.
- If backing fabric is
seamed remove selvage edges and sew with a ½ inch seam allowance, press seams
open.
- Press and square the
backing fabric.
Bed
sheets are NOT recommended for backing fabric.
